I love infomercials. The Shamwow guy cracks me up every time, and you can’t help but love the family jumping up and down in their Snuggies at the ball game. But, I think this one is my new favorite.

I just can’t get over how funny this infomercial is. It actually seems like this product is covertly promoting eavesdropping and spying. My personal favorite part is when the announcer says “You can easily hear sounds that other people can’t, and even hear conversations from clear across the room!” They might as well come out and say “Hey, have you always wanted to eavesdrop and spy on everything that other people are saying? Well then here’s the product for you!” I don’t know whether to laugh at whoever buys it, or be creeped out that people might have it.

I was watching TV the other day when this new McDonald’s commercial came on.

The first time I saw this commercial I just kind of sat and stared at the TV with my mouth hanging open. There’s just something about singing fish that grabs a person’s attention in general. The fact that it was singing in a bit of a strange voice AND singing about a McDonald’s filet-o-fish sandwich is just…interesting. I don’t know if it’s the idea of the fish being aware of the fact that the guy was eating the sandwich, or the extremely catchy tune that’s already getting stuck in my head, or the creepy look on the guy’s face, but it’s difficult for me to decide whether this commercial is hilarious or creepy. Maybe it’s just both. One thing’s for sure: I certainly won’t be forgetting this commercial anytime soon.

So what do you think? Creepy or funny? Or both?

Okay, I’ll admit, I’m very picky when it comes to TV commercials. If it seems more or less gross or stupid, I hate it. I know I get a little extreme when it comes to commercials, my friends all laugh when I start commenting on them. However, there are some commercials out there that are truly terrible. Take this recent commercial for Boost Mobile:

Now, who on earth wants to buy a phone that’s advertised by a girl whose armpit hair is flowing back and hitting the guy in the mouth? That is just disgusting, and not at all appealing. Yes, people will be remembering the commercial, but are they going to buy the product?

On the other hand, I do not hate all commercials. Some companies do a good job at trying to be funny without being too stupid or gross. Take this Carmax commercial:

Personally, I absolutely love the possessed car one. It makes me laugh every single time. This is a good example of a commercial that people are likely to remember, but also demonstrates pretty well the point the company wants to make. I believe that people would be more likely to remember this type of commercial positively and possibly use the service.

Everyone’s got them: those few little things that don’t bother/are funny to other people, but just drive you up the wall. In other words, pet peeves. The fun thing about them is that they can pop up anywhere, and they seem to just accumulate over time. I thought it might be interesting to post a few of my own pet peeves and see what other people think of them/what their pet peeves are.

1) Seeing/hearing people chew. This is so disgusting. I don’t only mean chewing with your mouth open either. For some reason, just the thought of hearing crunch crunch crunch and watching someone chew grosses me out. It’s the main reason I don’t like that Nature Valley commercial with the woman eating the granola bar on the cliff. Which brings me to my next peeve.

2) Stupid commercials. I’ve grown to realize that, when it comes to commercials, I either love them or hate them. Some are fine, but others make me want to throw the TV against the wall. For example, the Dish Network impression commercials. I can’t stand these commercials. Other than the William Shatner one, I don’t particularly think he does a very good job at his impressions and that bothers me. Probably because I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist.

3) Crumpled money/using lots of small bills. Seriously, is it that hard to straighten out your money before you give it to the cashier? I suppose this one comes from working over 5 years in customer service/ticket sales. I can’t count how many times people (usually teenagers, although I’ve had many an adult do this as well) pull a huge crumpled wad of cash out of their pockets, dig through past the 50s, 20s, and 10s, finally every so slowly pulling out fifteen singles, dropping them into a big crumpled pile on the counter, and then just start talking to whoever they’re with, leaving me to painstakingly reach across the counter, grab each bill, smooth it out, and attempt to get them in my drawer without holding up the line. Then, until I can get rid of said singles, I have them sticking up out of their holder because they won’t go flat again.

So what bothers you?
